| D.O. Believe Foundation’s 1st Annual “Dominator” A Huge Success | | | | September 6, 2010 | | | On September 4, 2010, the D.O. Believe Foundation held their 1st Annual “Dominator” 5/10K Walk and Run. It was a huge success, with a total of 379 runners taking part in the 5K and 10K races. Many participatns received thank you bags with shirts, water, cozies, coupons, food and water. Both races started at Blue Dot Services in Forest Hill, and continued onto Industry Lane and the Ma and Pa Trail. Music, cheers from spectators, and an air horn started each race.
All festivities were held at Blue Dot Services. Before, during and after the race, there was an inflatable play center for children. After runners completed the race, bagels, water and fruit were provided. In addition, Blue Dot provided their own entertainment to the runners and fans when their mascot appeared to shake hands, give high 5’s, and give out miniature Blue Dot dolls to children. Sponsor names and logos were placed throughout the race on various signs and banners. There were 21 Gold Sponsors, 14 Silver Sponsors, and 7 Bronze Sponsors. The main sponsor, Blue Dot Services, donated $7,000 to the cause.
$15,000 will be donated to Nemours/Alfred I. DuPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, DE by the D.O. Believe Foundation in a ceremony at the beginning of October. This money will be applied towards pediatric cancer research.
Both the D.O. Believe Foundation and Blue Dot Services are looking forward to the race in 2011, and are hoping to make it bigger and better. Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease among US children, yet only 3% of the National Cancer Institute's budget goes towards finding a cure for our children. It is the hope of the D.O. Believe Foundation that continued research will help to find a cure for cancer one day, and the lives of children will be no longer be at risk.
